Options Printing ... Graphics Black Magic's printing capabilities are very basic, however they will generate
a basic printout of your work for a reference. The printing function in Black Magic is limited to straight linear text. This
means that while you can print a document, the links are not included unless
they are part of what is termed the current text stream. Example. Printing in Magic is controlled off of the menu (activated by F10), with the
commands: <F10> F P G This activates the printer and prints the current text stream. The current text stream is where the
cursor is, and where ever it can go
without using <F1> or <Esc>. For example if a document has no hypertext links
at all and you print it, the entire document
would be printed. In this case there is only one
text stream. However lets say that you are in a Note Link and
issue the command to print, only the contents of
the Note window will be printed as this is the
curent text stream. Therefore while you could
print out a document that contained hypertext links, only the link originators would print. Options Dialog Box When the print menu is called up (by pressing <F10> P), a printer options
control menu item is now available. The new menu option is called
appropriately enough: Options. This option is accessed by typing: <F10> F P O When this menu comes up on screen for the first time, the "cursor" is at "Top
Margin". By typing a new number for the margin here and pressing enter, the
new top margin can be set. Then by using the arrow keys, the cursor can be moved to the next option ("Lines Per Page") and a new value for this can be
entered. When the cursor gets to the options "Double Spacing" and "Page
numbering", these are changed by typing a "Y" or a "N". Printer Drivers
Headers & Footers Printing & Graphics To print graphics or text in Black Magic, simply move to the node that you
wish to print and press <F10> F P G (Menu, File, Print, Go). This will print
the entire node, including any graphics that might be off screen. The two printer drivers supplied support the Epson and HP LaserJet printers.
To change the printer driver from within Black Magic, press: <F10> F P O (Menu, File, Print, Options) and move the cursor to the 'Printer Options'
choice. By pressing the <Right ArrowKey> and <Left ArrowKey> here, the
available printer drivers will be scrolled through and displayed. After the
desired printer driver is shown, press <Esc> to exit the Options Dialog Box. An added printing command is that of: <Ctrl> P. This starts the printing
process quickly, bypassing the menus. NOTE - To print a graphic from within a Note Link, the <Ctrl> P command (see
supplement) must be used. About Dialog Boxes Dialog Boxes are a fairly standard way to solicit information from the user. A dialog box is simply a full or half screen window from which choices can be made to configure some aspect of Black Magic. Examples of dialog Boxes used in Black Magic include the Search Options Box, The Configuration Screen Box, and The Printer Options Box. Dialog Boxes present various options for the user to alter. The method that you employ to alter these options varies depending on what you are altering. For Example (What you are altering is in italics) Dialog Box Option Method To Alter Line Spacing: 2 Enter a new Number Page Numbering: No Press "Y' or "N" Header: On Press <RightArrow> or <LeftArrow> Driver: HP Laserjet II Press <RightArrow> or <LeftArrow> Not - the <UpArrow> and <DownArrow> keys are used to scroll through a dialog box. Printer Drivers When you have moved through the menu to the section entitled "Driver", you can press the <RightArrow> and the <LeftArrow> to cycle through the list of possible drivers. Press <Enter> at the driver for your printer. If you own a printer other than the HP LaserJet or Epson, please call us and we will provide you with a printer driver for your particular printer. Headers & Footers As you can see, the Options Dialog Box has a section for entering Headers and Footers and controlling their appearance. After you have cycled through the dialog box with the arrow keys and selected your printer driver, the next and final option is to select and define your Header and Footer. When the highlighting bar appears at the: Header: OFF prompt, pressing <RightArrow> will change the Header's status to ON. Black Magic will then give you a line on which to enter your header. After the header is correctly typed press <Enter>. You can now do the same for the Footer to define it. HELP C7 C5 CONTENTS h cls
